A speech sounded promising, that meant it was more than just being the responsible one. Or at the very least, there was a good reason for her to be responsible.
The island was full of a bunch of superheroes and police officers and who knows what, but she'd never really heard of why anyone did that. She knew that assuming 'because they were drawn that way' did a disservice to them, but she'd still never heard why from anyone. She was curious, because she didn't know anyone else she could talk to about become a hero.
Maybe Jessica wasn't a hero in tights, but someone that was willing to man a hydration station at a party had to have a good reason to do it.
